I'd walk past this "old town hall" style building often on my local high street and wonder what it was used for. Years later I soon discover it is a members club and bar, with a café area out front displaying unusual art work on the walls. You could see the art subtly exposed through the tall windows amongst the busy high street action. It was unusual, yet captivating. I met some very interesting people visiting the members club, including those who had formed the local art community. Their story-telling captivated me and I thought of no better place for my art collection to have a home here.
the art showcases different types of media with vibrant colours and classic styles of painting with a twist. From exploring portraits to some of London's iconic alley ways, the pieces evokes a true reflection of humanity and celebrates boundaries between dark and light moments captured in hidden places. I love walking past and seeing the textures and colours come to life through those tall windows of the club.
A hidden gem in north London, Southgate. The Works collection is displayed until18th 2024. Admission is free entry during the club opening times.
